How to use a miswak
If you can peel a banana, you can do this. Most people get the hang of it on the first morning.
Peel 1 cm
Scrape the bark off one end with your fingernail or the included cap. Only peel what you will use.
Chew it soft
Chew the bare end for a minute until the fibres split open into a natural brush head.
Brush
Work in small vertical strokes, tooth by tooth, then along the gum line. Two to three minutes.
Rinse & trim
Rinse the head, store it dry in the case, and snip the frayed tip off every couple of days.

What is miswak, exactly?
A teeth-cleaning twig cut from the arak tree, Salvadora persica. It has been used across Arabia, East Africa and South Asia for well over a thousand years, and it is still the daily tool for a large share of the world.
Do I still need toothpaste?
No. The stick cleans mechanically with its own fibres and its own sap. Plenty of people use miswak in the morning and a fluoride paste at night — if fluoride matters to you or your dentist, keep that habit.
How long does one stick last?
Roughly two to three weeks of daily use. You trim the frayed head every couple of days and peel a fresh centimetre, so you are always brushing with new fibres.
What does it taste like?
Sharp, peppery, a little like horseradish or mustard seed. That bite is the sign of a fresh stick. A dull, papery taste means the wood has dried out.
How do I store it?
Rinse the head, shake it dry and keep it in the bamboo case. Do not seal a wet stick in an airtight bag. Unopened sticks keep best in the fridge.
